                        1. 美國之音(以下稱VOA)的英語節目,按播音速度可分爲兩種:Standard English (標准英語)和 Special English(特別英語)。

                          Special English 又叫“慢速英語”,是VOA 專爲全世界非英語國家初學英語的聽衆安排的一種簡易、規範的英語廣播節目。該節目創始于50年代末期,是VOA 的專家們研究如何與世界各地的英語學習者進行交際的産物。它正式開播于1959年10月。當時只面向歐洲和中東,但由于這個節目適合許多國家英語學習者的需要,所以它的廣播對象不久就擴大到世界其他地區,並很快在全世界範圍內産生了廣泛的影響。現在這個節目對歐洲、非洲和拉丁美洲每晚廣播一次,對加勒比地區每晚廣播一次(星期天除外),對東南亞廣播次數最多,每天上午兩次,晚上三次。

                          Words And Their Stories(詞語掌故)這一專題節目,旨在向學習英語的聽衆介紹美國英語中生動有趣的詞語和慣用法,並從科學研究和通俗詞源學的角度來解釋它們的含意、産生的背景及其在使用過程中的演變情況等。它通過講故事的形式講解每一個詞語。這是VOA Special English中的優秀節目之一,是學習美國英語的極好材料。通過收聽這一節目,聽衆不僅能學到娓娓動聽的掌故和地道的美國英語,而且能增加美國的社會文化背景知識,曆史傳統與現狀的了解。
